Go see “Anything Goes”

Folks living in the Manchester area in New Hampshire who want to enjoy a terrific show should go see “Anything Goes” at St. Anselm College.

The college’s student theater group, the Anselmian Abbey Players, will present their last two performances of this Broadway musical at 8 p.m. on Friday, April 11, and Saturday, April 12. Tickets are inexpensive, ranging from $6 – 13.

This musical comedy features some of Cole Porter’s best-loved songs, including “You’re the Top.” It’s the story of Billy Crocker, a stowaway on an ocean liner, who hopes to win over his true love, Hope Harcourt. Also onboard is nightclub star Reno Sweeney and Moonface Martin, who aspires to be Public Enemy No. 1.)

I saw a performance last weekend and it was great. The show was bright and colorful. The acting and singing and the music – performed by a small group in the orchestra pit – was fantastic. The students were terrific and they drew enthusiastic applause from their audience.

Several people leaving the Dana Center at the end of the show commented how good the performance was.

I’ve seen some really good shows produced by the Abbey Players in recent years, including “Pippin” and “Children of Eden.”
